Former Macomb County Sex-Crimes Prosecutor Representing R. Kelly

Former head of the Macomb County Prosecutor’s sex crime unit has been hired to help represent R. Kelly.

Nicole Blank Becker is one of six attorneys working on R. Kelly’s case. Her role is to try to bring Kelly’s side of the story to the public and protect his Constitutional right to a fair trial.

“We really do live in a world where the media does shape opinion,” Blank Becker said. “This is a case of a person being tried in the media before he gets a trial date. Part of my role is to bring knowledge to the public. So far, only one side has gotten to the public.”

Nicole Blank Becker left as chief of the unit, known as the Child Protection Unit, a year ago to go into private practice. She shares an Oakland County office with her father, Dan. She spent eight years in the unit, the last four as chief, and prosecuted several high-profile sex offenders.
